Daughter of Basil Everett Hill and Auvena Shreve. She first married James Cole. Several years after his death, she married Ronald Farley.
She was always called Jody by her family. Her friends and co-workers called her Bernie.
As a child, Jody was in a terrible accident. She had a little money for candy and was crossing the street (from Foundry Street across Route 2 in New Martinsville) when she was struck by a car. It was doubtful she would survive her injuries. Every time we would cross the bridge where she was struck, she'd tell me "that's where I almost met my maker!"
Jody and all of her sisters attended the girls school in Wheeling run by the Sisters of Mercy. From the stories I have heard, it is not the glamorous school they portrayed in a newspaper article I recently read.
She worked at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale for over 20 years. She started in housekeeping and eventually took a position as a nurse's aide. Following the death of her husband (Jim) and after her retirement, she and her sister Mary moved back to West Virginia.
