Julius Junior Kolb, age 94+, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Webster.
Visitation will be at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel from 5-7 p.m. on Friday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the chapel at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019 with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Sunset Menorial Gardens in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Julius Junior Kolb was born September 7, 1924, in Leola, South Dakota to John and Christina (Hoff) Kolb. He attended grade school in Leola, SD. He did farm work prior to enlisting in the United States Army in 1945. He served in the Asiatic Pacific. He earned the following decorations and citations: Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Julius married Gay Wahl on September 6, 1947. Three children were born to them: David, Julie and Randy. They bought an acreage near Verdon, South Dakota, harvested grain crops and had a dairy operation. They sold the farm land in 1975 and moved the house into Groton, South Dakota. He had various jobs before retiring.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. Julius and Gay competed in the Couples’ Bowling League and he also bowled on a singles league. He hosted and guided pheasant hunters from Indiana and Minnesota in the fall. He especially enjoyed fishing in the summer.
He is survived by his three children: David (Beth) Kolb from Aberdeen; Julie Thomas from Watertown; and Randy (Brenda) Kolb also from Watertown; 7 grandchildren: Kim Langerock, Teresa Rowland; Jackie Thomas, Justin Thomas, Jared Kolb, Brooke Kolb and Brandon Kolb; and 8 great grandchildren.
Julius was preceded in death by his wife, Gay; 7 siblings: Herbert Kolb, Alvin Kolb, Edwin Kolb, John Kolb, Amelia Hartze; Ella Hoff; and Katie Amsden and one grandson, Jason Kolb.
Honorary Casketbearer will be Jason Kolb.
Casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
