Lewis Hanes Walker, 84, of Oak Ridge, NC, passed away February 14, 2019, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, NC.
The son of the late Robert and Della Walker, Lewis was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company and was known for his beekeeping and supply of honey. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening, but more than anything, spending time with his family. Lewis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was known far and wide for his witty humor and jokes.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was predeceased by brothers Robert, Garl, Alfred, Paul, Tim, and Carter Walker and sisters Carlene Williams and Lila Campbell.
Lewis is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Peggy Harrell Walker, son Steven Walker (Sandy) of Kernersville, daughter Pamela Walker of Oak Ridge, grandchildren Jeremy Walker (Tara) of Charlotte, Jason Walker (Lisa) of Greensboro, and Travis Gavel (Emily) of Sneads Ferry, NC, great-grandchildren Jack Gavel, Miller Gavel, Addison Walker, and Reid Walker, sister Dorothy Smith (Ronnie) of Summerfield, brothers Clyde Walker of Archdale and Charles Walker of Stokesdale.
A celebration of life service for Lewis will be held at Northwest Baptist Church in Greensboro on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends there from 12 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Oak Level Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 161, Stokesdale, NC 27357 or the Hospice Foundation of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
