Artist and Author. An award winning illustrator for children's books and magazine covers, he graduated from the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art, now known as the University of the Arts, in 1956. For 20 years he worked as an illustrator for magazines and advertising. He created covers for the "Saturday Evening Post," "Esquire," Good Housekeeping," and "Redbook." In the 1970s, his celebrity portraits appeared on the cover of "TV Guide" forty times. In 1985 he was approached by Running Press to illustrate "The Complete Tales of Peter Rabbit and Other Stories" by Beatrix Potter. He was intrigued by the idea of completing artwork for an entire book which would be more permanent than an ad or cover of a magazine. He immersed himself in the book, studying the text and looking for symbolism relevant to the period. In his studio above a pizza shop in Philadelphia, he painstakingly created each individual painting depicting a scene in the book. A book project often would take two or three years to complete. He also painted illustrations for "Aesop's Fables," "Snow White," "The Wizard of Oz," "The Little Mermaid," "Snow White: A Little Apple Classic," "The Night Before Christmas," "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," "The Illustrated Treasury of Classic Children's Stories," and "The Fox and the Rooster." He wrote and illustrated four books of his own, "William the Curious: Knight of the Water Lillies," "A Stowaway on Noah's Ark," "The Camel's Lament," and "The Silk Princess." His latest picture book, "Jabberwocky," will be available through Running Press in Spring of 2020. HIs artwork is on display at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; The Free Library of Philadelphia; the Museum of Modern Art in New York City; The United States Department of the Interior; and in private collections. He received numerous awards, including the Society of Illustrators Award, the Philadelphia College of Art Alumni Award, and the Hamilton King Award.
