Eureka Youth Fatally Injured In Traffic Accident

Paul Timmerman, 16-year-old Eureka youth, was fatally injured in a near-head on collision at Ryan Slough bridge on Old Arcata Road at 10:15 o'clock last night.

The youth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Darrow of 2085 Fern Street, died about an hour after the accident, in which Arvie Sandholn, 40, of Eureka, received reportedly minor injuries.

Highway Patrol reports said the boy was eastbound when his car drifted across the center line and collided with that of Sandholm. The youth was traveling at a moderate rate of speed at the time, the CHP report said.

Timmerman, a Eureka High School student, had been an umpire for the Eureka Midget League, a volunteer assistant coach of the Winship Junior High seventh and eighth grade basketball teams, and was generally active in assisting in recreational sports. He also was employed by the Cutten Supermarket.

The body was taken to Cooper Mortuary, where funeral arrangements are pending. Young Timmerman's death was the 22nd in traffic on streets and highways in Humboldt County this year.
