(1913-1998)

Helen Louise Applegate, 84, of Vanceburg, Ky., died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Born June 7, 1913, in Popular Flat, Ky., a daughter of the late Joe Frye and Bessie Jordan Frye, she was a homemaker and had worked for the Lewis County (Ky.) School Board as a cook.

Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Applegate, Dec. 27, 1976, she is survived by one son, Douglas E. Applegate of Vanceburg Route 2; a daughter, Carol Hawes of Newark; two half brothers, Fred McCann of Moscow, Ohio, and Arnold McCann of Russell Springs, Ky.; two half sisters, Maxine Esham of Vanceburg and Pauline McCall of Vanceburg Rt. 2; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Hooper; and one half brother, Halbert McCann.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, with the Rev. James Finch officiating, and interment in Muses Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
