Albert Thiry, age 92, of White Lake, SD died Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Aurora Brule Care and Rehab. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church in White Lake, SD with burial at the St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church followed by a wake service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Albert Thiry, son of Bernard and Clara (Mairose) Thiry, was born July 20, 1927 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up on the family farm near White Lake and attended country school.

Albert was a life-long farmer and resident of the Thiry Family Farm. The Thiry farm received the South Dakota Century Farm Award in 2016.

Albert was united in marriage with Mary Hettinger in 1951 at St. Willibrord’s Catholic Church at Robey rural White Lake. Albert and Mary formed a life-long bond of hard work and raising their family on the farm.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus. Albert also served as a Plainfield Township Board Member for 50 years.

Albert enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, visiting with family and friends and traveling when farm life allowed. In his younger years he was also active in bowling leagues.

Albert celebrated his 92nd birthday on July 20th with all of his children present.

Grateful for having shared his life are his eight children, Jim (Linda) Thiry, White Lake, SD, Steve (Brenda) Thiry, Mitchell, SD, Tom (Janice) Thiry, White Lake, SD, Doug (Deb) Thiry, White Lake, SD, Marlene (Bruce) Haines, Mitchell, SD, Lori Hauge, Sioux Falls, SD, Donna (Kim) Swanson, Rapid City, SD and Karen (Dean) Michaels, Gilbert, AZ; 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on January 31, 2009; his parents; a sister, Darlene Tripp and a step grandson, Derek Swanson.

Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Catholic Church in White Lake, the White Lake Senior Meals Program or the White Lake Ambulance Service.
