Herbert Leroy Nelson was born on February 14, 1941 to Edna Wahl Nelson and John Herbert Nelson. In the early sixties he married Donita Cates and they had four children, Rhonda, Daren, Traci and Heather.

Herb was an aircraft mechanic at Vance Air Force Base and repaired all types of aircraft. He began working there for ServAir, at age 18 and worked for several different companies that received the contract with Vance. DynCorp had the contract when Herb retired in 2003. Additionally, Herb served 27 years in the Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Sergeant Major.

Herb met his one true love, Nancy Robinett, while square dancing, and they married in 1994, going on to dance in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. More importantly, Herb accepted Christ as his Savior, and his life changed forever. He was a quiet man, but he demonstrated his love for God by having a servant's heart. He was always there when the church needed something done, cleaned, or moved. Herb was at peace when he went to be with Jesus on August 10, 2019.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Rhonda, and his brother Jim.

He is survived by Nancy, children Daren, Traci Heffron, Heather Nelson and Keith Robinett; grandchildren, TJ, Kaeley, Megan, Kennedy, Brittany, Madison and Sutton; great grandchildren Trace, Lily, Ryker and Molly; step grandchildren Zoe, Journe, Laci, Brooklyn and Kodee; and "special grandchildren" Jazlyn, Austin and Stryker. He is also survived by his brother Richard, nieces, nephews, and a wealth of friends.

A Celebration of Herb's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church, 5101 W. Randolph Ave., Enid, OK. Please bring a good story to share about Herb!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or to Fresh Start Fellowship "Peace Island" to fund food for the children's house in Monrovia, Liberia that was a favorite charity of Herb's. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
