Aubrey was born in Woodland, Aroostook, Maine and lived there until the 1900's when he moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. He met and married Bertha Olive Shaw in 1909. She also was from Maine. He and Bertha had eight children and were living in Willows, Glenn Co. CA in 1930. They moved to Paradise, Butte Co., CA in the early 40's.

Aubrey, (my grandfather) "big granddad" as he was called by his grandchildren, was a wonderful man. He taught us about a lot of things. Like how to irrigate your garden vegetables, grow berries, and how to cure olives. And to have faith and to stand up for what you believe in.

He had 20 acres of olive trees on Pearson road(between South Libby and Sawmill Rds) in Paradise, Butte Co. Ca. He had a big barrel in the back yard where he cured the olives. We ate an awful lot of olives then...His home was on the corner of Pearson Rd and South Libby Rd. Address was 1112 Pearson Rd.in Paradise.

There was a well in the side of the yard towards the back. It was very deep. It had a bucket that you could lower for fresh water. (I remember lowering my little brother in the bucket down until he was almost in the water. We played there a lot. Needless to say I should have been punished but no one caught us doing those crazy things.)The water was wonderful, and was fed by a river running beneath it.

Grandad had a hobby of polishing rocks and made beautiful jewelry for many family members. During the last few years of his life he lived with his daughter Ruth at 1423 Graceful Lane in Paradise. He was an active Mason.

...My Grandad...I miss him terribly...
