According to William K. Oliphant’s tombstone, he died on September 4, 1898 (a Sunday). However, two obituary notices for William had appeared in local newspapers in the week prior to that day. His actual day of death was the previous Sunday—August 28, 1898.
The tombstone states that William was "Aged 59 years". However, that also is in error. Based on a birth date record found in a family bible, William actually died at the age of 56 years, an age that is backed up in an obituary and in multiple U.S. Federal Census reports.
