Funeral Service for Billy Joe Allen, Sr., age 80 years, will be held at 10:00 am on August 3, 2019 at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church, Plain Dealing, Louisiana with Pastor Deryl Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery, Plain Dealing, Louisiana under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home - Springhill, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, August 2, 2019 at Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, Louisiana.

Mr. Allen was born November 17, 1938 to Chester Bryant and Jenner Josephine Wesson Allen in Walker Creek, Arkansas and passed away at home in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He was a lifelong contractor, having been a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local #764. He was also a member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge #348 FandAM.

Mr. Allen was a lover of the outdoors and avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Erling, camping, fishing and visiting with family and friends. Mr. Allen is said to have had a quick wit and loved a good joke. He was a man with strong personal patience and truly a man of his word. In his early years he spent time volunteering for the Springhill Fire Department and helping friends with building and renovation projects across the community. In his mid-life, he was a Construction Superintendent and directed the building of schools, hospitals and shopping centers around the Ark-La-Tex. In the years after his wife's death, he spent time reading and playing solitaire on his iPad; enjoying the peaceful life with the company of his daughters and countless pets.

He is survived by his four children; Melba Louise Bamburg and husband Charles Bamburg of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Melodie Marie Allen of Springhill, Louisiana, Billy Joe Allen Jr (Jody) and Teressa Thomas of Carrollton, Texas and Malissa Ann Allen of Springhill, Louisiana; four sisters, Nadine Harris of Cotton Valley, Louisiana, Betty Jean and husband Fred Seay of Bethany, Texas, Patricia Enis of Cotton Valley, Louisiana and Joyce Faye Turner of Bossier City, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Mary Louise Huddleston and husband Mike Huddleston, Robert Matthew Hughes and wife Rachel, Ashley Megan Allen, Michaelanne Allen and Joseph Allen; one great-grandchild, Brielle Grace Hughes and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his wife, Melba Morgan Allen, father, Chester Bryant Allen, mother Jenner Josephine Allen, brothers, JC Allen, Herbert Allen and Odell Allen.

Thessalonians 4:13-14 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep with him.
