Michael Lee McCombs, formerly of Waco, went to be with his parents, D.A. and Doris McCombs, July 2, 2008, in Berkeley, Calif. He had lived in California for the past 36 years.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at The Chapel at Providence Park.

Michael was the Salutatorian of Richfield High School in 1963. He graduated from The University of Texas in Austin in 1968, with a B.S. in chemistry. He also graduated with a Ph.D. in human genetics in 1972, from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He was instrumental and had several publications in the study of Cystic Fibrosis under the late Dr. Barbara Bowman. He also worked at the University of California in San Francisco, and as a Genetic Counselor until he became disabled.

Michael is survived by his brother, Larry McCombs of Waco; sister, Susan McCombs of Waco; nephew, Ken McCombs and wife, Teresa of Dallas, and Jerry McCombs of Rowlett; niece, Kadye McCombs of Ft. Worth; great-nephews, Justin and Brandon McCombs, both of Dallas, and Dylan Stone of Ft. Worth; favorite aunt and uncle, Wilma and Bill Frazier of Dallas: and many cousins in Texas and Missouri.

Special Thank You for all his friends and caregivers in California, especially Victoria LeBleu, for their faithful service.

Memorials are requested for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.
