Harold W. “Jake” Dowden, 95, of Centerburg passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Brookdale in Mount Vernon. He was born on August 10, 1923 in Mount Liberty to the late Theodore and Maud (Slane) Dowden.

Jake honorable served his country in the Army during WWII.

He was a Millwright for the former Continental Can in Mount Vernon.

Jake and his wife, were members for the Mount Liberty United Methodist.

He enjoyed farming his 70 acre farm which was one mile from his birth place.

Jake was known for the beautiful cabinets, tables and shelves he made over the years.

He was a member of the AmVets, the V.F.W., the Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge.

Jake is survived by his wife, whom he married on September 15, 1951, daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sister.

In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by a son, Tim Dowden; brother, Herbert Dowden; and sisters, Helen White, Ruth Hulse and Josephine Workman.
