Monica R. Hunter, age 68, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019, at the Cheney Care Center in Cheney, Washington. Monica was a former longtime resident of Tekoa, Washington.

She was born October 27, 1950, at Eureka, California to Orville Speck and Gladys B. Lloyd.

In 1952 Monica was adopted by Clarence Peone who married Gladys Lloyd.

Monica attended schools in Arizona, in Valley, Washington, and in Worley, Idaho. She graduated from Worley High School in 1968.

Monica married Tommy Hunter in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1972 and the couple made their home in Tekoa. Monica had worked as a bartender at the Golden Grain Tavern, worked as a cook at Tekoa High School for many years, and was the manager at the Tekoa Hardware Store for over 20 years.

Her husband Tom died in 2014. Monica moved to Cheney to live with her daughter in 2015.

Survivors include her children, Marla Hunter Peone, Bill Antelope of Spokane, WA, and Andy (Sarah) Hunter of New Hampshire; her siblings, Ora (William) Frazier of Wells, Nevada, Monte Peone of Newark, Ohio, Melvin Peone of Wellpinit, WA, Darlene (Russell) Gusdal of Blue Creek, WA, and 7 grandchildren, Sierra Peone, Serenity Antelope, Bryson Bofto- Antelope, Dominick Zook, Brett Hunter, Blake Hunter, and Kayden Antelope.

She was preceded in death by her 4 siblings, Karon Boyd, Jim Peone, Miles Peone, and Norvel Peone.

An urn burial service will be held at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa at a later date. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is handling the local arrangements.
