James D."Doug" Herman, 70, of Mountain Home, died on Friday, July 15, 2005, at a local care center.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday July 21, at the American Legion Hall Post No. 26, 515 E. 2nd South St., Mountain Home, at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home.

Doug was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Conde, S.D., to Robert and Edna (Wetztein) Herman.

Doug was schooled in Conde and after graduation in 1952 he joined the United States Air Force. During his Air Force career he was stationed in several different locations, spending most of his time in Mountain Home.

In 1955 he married Donna Haney in South Dakota. They later divorced.

In 1973 Doug retired while stationed at Luke AFB and moved to Mountain Home.

In 1976 he started working for the Mountain Home School District in the maintenance department, retiring in 1991.

Doug enjoyed being in the outdoors, fishing and camping. Doug spent many hours reading Louis LaMore books and Star Trek.

Doug was a member of the American Legion Post No. 26 and VFW of Mountain Home. He enjoyed throwing darts with his many friends at the Sunset Sports Pub. He always enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

Doug is survived by: his daughters, Karen Hill and Teresa Reich of Mountain Home, Connie Paquette of Layton, Utah, Ann Lively of Buhl, Linda Joshlin of Walla Walla, Wash.; brothers Bruce Herman of South Dakota, Gerald Herman of Wisconsin and Bill Herman of Wisconsin; sisters Janette Linsland of South Dakota, and Marilyn Priest of Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Doug was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, one son (Tom) and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Post No. 26, 515 E. 2nd South St., Mountain Home, Idaho 83647.
