CONVICTED OF CRUELTY
Attorney Floyd Annabel, counsel for the bath Humane Society, secured the conviction of Max LeClaire, a well-known farmer of the town of Pulteney, on Wednesday. Mr. LeClaire was charged with not feeding his horses sufficiently, and further with working them when they were weak and in no condition to perform labor; it was also charged that several weeks ago, while ploughing, one of his horses fell in the furrow, and he left it there to die without care. When arraigned before justice Minor McConnell in Pulteney, LeClaire pleaded guilty. The court fined him $35 and sentenced him to serve six months in the county jail. Upon his promise to properly feed and care for his horses, the jail sentence was suspended. LeClaire Hill remain under the surveillance of agents of the Humane Society, and any departure from his promise will result in further legal action against him. Attorney Annabel has several cases in view which he will proceed to prosecute.
