He served overseas with the Army during WWI. He left the US with the 76th Division and in France was transferred to Co. H, 58th Infantry, Fourth Division and fought in many battles including Verdun and Chateau Thierry. He was wounded by shrapnel while fighting in the Argonne Forest. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
His wife, the former Emma Mary Rupprecht died May 26, 1967.
He leaves two daughters, one son, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, the Rev. Sister Mary Peters of Victoria, B.C.
