According to a Shaw family genealogist, Janet Garland, in 2007, he was a native of county of Antrim (thouht to have been born about 1780) , Northern Ireland & arrived in Charleston, S. C. on Jan. 1795 ; and he took an oath of allegiance & moved to Pendleton District of S. C. He met and married Susan "Sukey" Hardin from nearby Georgia. Janet Garland thinks that he moved to Dallas Co., Alabama in 1826. Janet also writes in 2007 that Alexander was a good friend of her ggggrandfather, Jonas Shaw (son of John Shaw & wife Mary Donaldson Shaw). She notes that in a book, Seven Pines, there is mention of letters between these Shaw families, including a visit to Jonas Shaw's home in Bolivar, Texas in 1830s-1840s (kin or just friends with same surname?).
