Rachel Wells Prewitt, age 76, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at her home in Clinton, Mississippi, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 28 at Lakewood Chapel in Jackson, followed by burial at 2:30 P.M. at Old Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Ackerman, Mississippi.
Rachel was born August 27, 1930 in Choctaw County, Mississippi. She was a charter member of Wildwood Baptist Church in Clinton and a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Clinton at the time of her death. As an active church member her entire life, Rachel was a faithful servant in the nursery and in her Sunday School Class.
Rachel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who continually gave of herself for her family. She was instrumental in building and maintaining two successful family businesses with her husband during her lifetime. She also loved spending time with her granddaughters, Hannah Rachel and Mary Clair Cardin, as she spent many hours caring for them and taking them to do fun things.
Rachel is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Prewitt of Clinton; her son, Mike Prewitt of Trussville, Alabama; her daughter, Susan Cardin and her husband Tommie of Clinton; granddaughters Hannah Rachel and Mary Clair Cardin of Clinton; sisters Virgie Prewitt of Clinton, Alva Kemery of Port Townsend, Washington, Rinna Hall of Cataula, Georgia and Billie Lucas of Denham Springs, LA.
The family is especially grateful for the loving care provided for Rachel by her caregiver, James McPherson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to The Alzheimer's Association, 1900 Dunbarton Dr. Suite H, Jackson, MS 39216, or Patient's Choice Hospice and Palliative Care, 1911 Mission 66, Suite A, Vicksburg, MS, 39180, in honor of the special care and treatment provided by all of her caregivers.
