Swedish Nobleman. He served as a statesman and military commander in the Thirty Years' War, Swedish War for Bremen, the Second Northern War, and the Scanian War. During his life, he also held the titles of Field Marshal, Lord High Admiral, and Lord High Constable. His other positions included the Count of Salmis (later Solvesborg, present-day Russia), the Freiherr of Lindeberg and Ludenhof, the Governor-general of Swedish Pomerania, chancellor of the University of Greifswald (present-day Germany), and supreme judge in the Swedish province of Uppland. He constructed several vast homes, including the Wrangelsburg Palace (Glowe, (formerly Swedish Pomerania)), the Spyker Castle (Glowe (formerly Swedish Pomerania)), the Gripenberg Castle (Sweden), and the Skokloster Castle (Sweden). He was married to Anna Margareta von Haugwitz who bore him eleven children, five of whom reached adulthood.
