Lois Anne Duncan Hunt, 83, of Holland, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 12, 2018 at The Inn at Freedom Village in Holland.

Lois was born in Montgomery, Alabama on July 1, 1935, to Jack and Geneva Ralston Duncan. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, and her Masters in chemistry from Duke University. Highlights of her career included teaching biology and chemistry at the Brooke Hill School for Girls in Birmingham, Alabama (Teacher of the Year), as well as working as a chemist at UAB in Birmingham and for the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Upon retirement, Lois devoted herself to the study of garden design, and enthusiastically employed her artistic talent, love of beauty and gardening as an accomplished garden designer. A member of Third Reformed Church in Holland, Lois was active in The Rachel Circle and in Stephen's Ministry. She took delight in designing and renovating the courtyard garden at the church. She was a past member of Bible Study Fellowship which had a significant impact on her life and faith. She also served as a Kids Hope volunteer and enjoyed being a member of the Holland Horticulture Club, sharing her garden for club events.

Lois is survived by her husband, Charles E. Hunt; daughter, Kathy Shumaker; grandson, Tom Shumaker, all of Holland; sister, Vivian (Gene) Lemons of Greensboro, North Carolina; nephew, Patrick Lemons of Greensboro; Stepchildren; Kathleen McBride of Birmingham, AL (Kaitlin and Kelly); Ruth and Gill Ramos of Birmingham (Miguel); Miriam Hunt of Arizona; John and Melody Hunt of Birmingham, AL (Megan, John Mark, Joseph, Josh, and Mandy); Stephen and Claudia Hunt of Ohio (Allison, Ashten, Azziah, Miriam, and Yvette).

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Hunt and a step-grandson, Matthew.

Lois will be lovingly remembered as a gracious southern woman, wise, of deep faith, a loving wife, wonderful mother, and cherished friend to many. She will be deeply missed.

A public memorial service and private graveside burial will take place at a later date.
