Major League Pitcher. Pitched his entire big league career with the New York Highlanders/Yankees. Jack Warhop was called "Chief" because his surname sounded like "war hoop" and "Crab" for his disposition, Warhop holds the Yankee season record for hit batsmen (26). Warhop became famous for giving up Babe Ruth's first home run in 1915. He also was one of the few pitchers in Major League history to ever steal home twice. He was also known in the Yankee clubhouse for his habit of harrasing rookie ballplayers, "bushers" as they were known. In 8 years with New York he accrued a 69-93 record with 7 saves, a 3.12 ERA over 1412.2 innings pitched in 221 American League games.
