Samuel S. Moody enlisted September 22, 1862 at Waynesville with Capt. Hopkins. He served in Co. A, 24th Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. G, 7th Georgia Cavalry 11 Jun 1864 • He was captured June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillian Station, Va. 20 Jun 1864 • POW Transferred to Fortress Monroe, Va. on June 20, 1864. Transferred To Elmira Prison from Fortress Monroe on July 25, 1864. Sent to Point Lookout, MD. 14 Oct 1864 • Died of Chronic Diarrhea Point Lookout, Md. 29 Oct. 1864 and was buried in the prison graveyard near the Prison Camp. Removed from prison graveyard to new location at Point Lookout do to erosion of graveyard. All bones were recovered and buried in mass grave.
