His birth was registered in the town of Malzieu-ville the day after, by his grandfather, Vital Baptiste Magne (1820 - 1913), with his mother recognizing her claim to him several days later. The father is noted as being unknown.

Vital came to Canada on March 25, 1891, aboard the Carthaginian, with his mother and step-father (Source: Libray and Archives Canada, Passenger list, item 1125548). He took over his parents' farm in the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes / Treherne area (NE-24-7-9-W1; 49.587479, -98.557373) and hosted them for periods of time before his step-father's passing.

Later, he would establish the family on a parcel that was part of 10-8-7-W1 (near 49.643186, -98.335145), which would be just outside the modern town of Saint-Claude, and on the area that includes the active cemetery in which he rests.

Also of note: among others, he employed as a labourer, a very young Yves Joachim Dondo (1891) for a time shortly after the Dondo family's arrival in 1905.

As we can see in his marriage registration, he chose to revert to the family name given to him at birth for his adult life: MB Marriage Registration #1903,002817 as "Vital Magne" and "Marie Eglantine Vandal"

His death is recorded as MB Death Registration #1949,004781, wherein the doctor accurately indicated an estimated age of 68 years.

His step-father: Jean Bouzerans (1851 - 1923)
