Julia Bartlett, 94, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Manly, and Minneapolis, died Friday (Nov. 9, 2007) at the Shores at Pleasant Hill in Pleasant Hill.

Julia Bartlett was born on Valentine's Day on February 14, 1913, on a farm in Elburn, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Thursa (Alyward) Bartlett.

She only lived in Elburn one year before she and her family moved to Manly, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from the local high school. She attended college at Grinnell University in Grinnell, Iowa, and transferred to Iowa State University. She graduated from Iowa State University with a home economics degree. Her first job was teaching at a country school. During her summers off from teaching she attended the University of Iowa. After two years of teaching along with two years of summer schooling she went on to teach at the high school level. She moved to the state of Minnesota and began teaching there. The University of Minnesota offered her a position as an Extension Home Economist professor. She was very involved in educating youth in the 4-H program. She was involved with this Extension program until 1973. Julia had many opportunities through the University of Minnesota to do extensive traveling. She moved from Minnesota to join us at the The Shores at Pleasant Hill. She is surrounded by great friends that keep in touch and a loving family. Julia enjoyed culture events and also was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews; Elaine (Bob) Heiberger of Ames, Iowa, Cliff (Carol) Bartlett of Whitney, Texas, Lowell (Liz) Bartlett of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Russell (Connie) Bartlett of Liberty, Missouri, Luanne (Gayle) Linke of Denton, Texas, Ruth (Rod) Barnett of Newton, Iowa, Margaret (Ben) Weir of Colo, Iowa, Susan (Steve) Trebil of Manly, Iowa, and Jane (Bill) Thompson of Dumont, Iowa, many grand nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph (Anne) Bartlett, Maynard (Dorothy) Bartlett, John (Gladys) Bartlett, a sister and brother-in-law, Elsie (Albert) Mueller, a niece, Ann Krebs and two nephews, Bud and Dick Bartlett.
