Jerry L. "Buckwheat' Johnson age 70 of Smithville, passed away Thursday June 27, 2019 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville.

He was born March 18, 1949 to his parents, the late Wilson B. and Emma Lee Taylor Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Hobbs; grandson, Caylix Jayce Johnson; brother, Ray Johnson and sister, Dorothy Haggard.

He owned and operated Model City Auto Sales and was in the trucking business.

Buckwheat is survived by 1 son, Chad Johnson of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Bentley Hobbs, Brantley Johnson, Carmen Johnson, Aspen Johnson, Emma Johnson, Makira Johnson and Kelvin Reagan; son-in-law, Josh Hobbs; 2 sisters, Kathleen Mahler and Era Billings both of Sparta; former wife and mother of his children, Judy Johnson of Smithville.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Sunday, June 30, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 2:PM until 8:PM and Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
