Brenda attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mt. Olive, MS. She was a devoted wife to James and then Bobby, confessing that she loved to spoil her husbands. She raised four children with James in McComb, MS in a simple but happy home with lots of laughter and plenty of great food. Affectionately known to her children's friends as "Mama Neal," she always had an open door and an extra seat at the table. She loved to cook and bake, especially with her grandchildren, and was famous for her gifts of homemade candy at Christmas. At last count she had collected over 150 cookbooks, mostly from area garage sales that she never could seem to pass up. She enjoyed traveling with family, particularly her mom and sisters, seeing the beauty of Seattle or the wonders of New York City and everything in between. She worked in the grocery industry for 30 years as a bookkeeper and scanning coordinator where she never met a stranger. She had a contagious smile, would be the first to laugh at herself, and could often be heard singing or whistling whatever song had come to mind that day. She was a friend to so many of us, always ready with a cup of coffee and a sympathetic ear. She taught us how to listen without judgment, to parent with patience and love, and to rely on Jesus, whom she had trusted as Savior, in the good times and the trials of this life. She was a treasure, and she will be greatly missed until we meet again.
She is survived by her mother, Iris Marie Gill of Tylertown, MS; four children, Michelle Neal Martin (Kevin) of Fort Myers, FL, Sheri Neal Chandler (Scott) of West Newbury, MA, David "Tony" Neal (Kelly) of Mayville, WI, and James "Mickey" Neal, Jr. (Julia) of Edmonds, WA; two children by marriage, Robert Bryant (Lisa) of Mize, MS and Walter Bryant of Mendenhall, MS; sister, Nelda Stuckey (Gordon) of Magee, MS; eight grandchildren, Zachary, Kaley, Jack, Wesley, Morgan, Kaleb, Madeline and Caitlyn; six grandchildren by marriage, Jacob, Austin, Zachary, Colton, Owen and Seth; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own children.
Brenda was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, James Neal, Sr.; her husband of 22 years, Bobby Bryant; her father, Wilbur Hux; her sister, Lenita Brown; her brother, Quinton Hux; and her daughter by marriage, Tammy Bryant Barnett.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22nd, 2019 11:00 am at Mesa Baptist Church in Tylertown, MS. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering Brenda and all that she meant to us.
