Alberta Jelena Bogaards was born on November 27, 1920, on the family farm north of Pella, Iowa. She was the fifth of seven children that were born to Abraham and Johanna (Van Heukelom) Bogaards. Alberta attended the Sandridge country grade school through the 8th grade. In 1936 the family moved to the Bethel neighborhood on the John Boot farm where her father farmed. On December 30, 1939, she was united in marriage with Henry Naaktgeboren and to this union two sons were born, Ronald Dean and Alan Lee. They moved to a farm northwest of Pella in 1949. Alberta worked at the Rolscreen Company in Pella for a short time before becoming a farmer’s wife. On May 30, 1972, Henry passed away. Consistent with her siblings, Alberta began doing thorough house cleanings for several local families. Her work habits continued to be evident and consistent with the family reputation. Alberta and Henry had gone to several gospel sings together at KRNT in Des Moines, Iowa where they became close friends with Carl and Anna Mitchel. Following the passing of their spouses, this bond resulted in the marriage of Alberta to Carl Rawson Mitchel on October 30, 1993. Carl had one daughter, Carolyn Harkness. After 13 years of marriage, Carl passed away on February 17, 2007. Through all of her years Alberta always displayed her love for others. In September 2010, she became a resident at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville, Iowa. Alberta had a lots of love for elderly folks and was able to provide assistance and comfort to fellow residents in their time of need. Fittingly, Alberta was twice chosen the West Ridge Home Coming Queen, in 2011 and in 2017. Alberta passed away on June 21, 2019, at the age of 98 years. Alberta is survived by her son Alan Naaktgeboren, and her only living sibling, Bernice (Jake) Sneller both of Pella.

Alberta was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Naaktgeboren and Carl Mitchel; her son, Ronald Naaktgeboren and grandson, Tim Naaktgeboren; her parents, Abraham and Johanna Bogaards; the following sisters and brother and their spouses: Martha and Pete Doornenbal, Rachel and William Uitermarkt, Mollie and Franklin Brom, Jeanette and Norman Robus, William A.M. and M. Faye Bogaards; and a brother-in-law, Jake Sneller. Alberta was baptized at the Third Reformed Church in Pella and since 1957 had been a member of The Church of the Open Bible. Alberta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and sister.
