Revolutionary War Soldier. He was a lieutenant colonel in the army. He was a Free Quaker who believed that he needed to go to war for his country. He later was a representative, and then a sentaor, in the Pennsylvania Assembly. In later life he was a justice in Philadelphia's Court of Common Pleas.
