Amanda (Grigsby) Gregory was born on August 15, 1901 in Tennessee, and she was the daughter of Josh Grigsby (1835–1905) Elizabeth "Betty" (Holt) Grigsby (1844–1944).

A maid for private families and living at 322 12th Avenue North in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, she was 51 years old and a widow when she died on October 10, 1952 at Hubbard Hospital of "massive hemopericarditis" due to a ruptured dissecting aneurysm.

Survivors included son Hubert Gregory, daughter-in-law Mrs Lillian Gregory, four grandsons, a granddaughter, seven great-grandchildren, sisters Mrs Hattie Baltimorre in Nashville and Mrs Alice Swanson of Detroit, Michigan, brother Thomas Grigsby and sister-in-law Mrs Agnes Grigsby at Nashville, four nephews, three nieces and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held on October 14th at Greater Saint John Baptist Church, and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashville.
