Samuel “Sam” Pete Vestal, 84, passed away on June 18, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Sam was born on June 20, 1934 in Yadkin County, NC to the late Ed and Rosa Vestal, and was raised in Jonesville, NC. He was a very talented musician and, earlier in his life, he fully devoted his time to ministry, working with R.W. Teague Ministries. Sam attended Unity Church of Winston-Salem. He proudly served his country in the United States Airforce and was member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Sam enjoyed gardening and loved music. He especially loved spending time with his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Marie Brown, Maryanne Layell, Hillary Vestal, Tom Vestal and Chuck Vestal. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 33 years, Judith Smith Vestal of Winston-Salem, NC; his oldest son, Mark (Sherri) Vestal of Greensboro, NC and their two children, Ben (Kristdel) Vestal of Wilmington, NC and Tyler (Gerica) Vestal of Nashville, TN, and his youngest son, John (Pattie) Vestal of Wilmington, OH and their children, Chris (Kimberly) Vestal of Loveland, OH, Alexandra Vestal, Nick Vestal, Sam Vestal and Michael Vestal, all of Wilmington, OH; sisters-in-law, Frances Vestal, Bertha Vestal and Mariam Vestal; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Unity Church of Winston-Salem, with Rev. Elizabeth Forrest officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:45 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery, 5300 W Wendover Ave, High Point, NC 27265.In tribute, flowers may be sent for the family or memorials may be made to Unity Church of Winston-Salem, 108 Hewes St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
