U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1870, and commenced to practice law in Crown Point, Indiana. He was prosecuting attorney of the thirty-first judicial circuit (1880-84) and was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-third Congress, serving 1915-17. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law. He also served as president of the Commercial Bank and the First Calumet Trust & Savings Bank until he retired in 1939.
