She was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Opal was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph Earl and Bertie Christine Garland and the second oldest of 17 children. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Walters and by four brothers, Virgil, Earl Jr. "June Bug", Donnie and David Garland. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leon Haywood; son, Ronnie Haywood; brothers: Ted Garland (Ann), Jerry Garland (Donna) and Lanny Garland (Rena); sisters: Joy Staggs, Mable Patterson (Charles), Brenda Bohn (Bob), Wilma Johnston (Henry), Judy Davis (Randy), Sue Riddle, Sandra Pierce (Jerry) and Doris White (David); brother-in-law, Billy Walters of Lawrenceburg, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 13, 2019. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Lawrence County, TN.
