Richard Martin Cortesi, 72, of Yakima, Washington, formerly of San Mateo, California, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at The Cottage in The Meadow in Yakima.
He was born on April 14, 1945, to Martin and Grace (Silicani) Cortesi in San Francisco.
Richard grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Richard served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. After he returned for Vietnam, he started his career with the U.S. Postal Service, and later retired. There he met his future wife Carolyn Conklin, they were married of Feb. 9, 1970, and had just been married 48 years.
Richard was a big Giants and 49ers fan. His main hobbies included watching baseball and football, collecting sports cards and other sports memorabilia. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren, he was a crossing guard in Foster City and also worked for the Daily Journal.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn; son Anthony (Melissa) Cortesi of Yakima; son Joseph (Jennifer) Cortesi of Union City, California; sister Ellen Cortesi of Sacramento; and four grandchildren Alexis, Nick, Vivianna, and Codie, all of Union City, California.
Richard's wishes were to be cremated and no service will be held at this time.
