Parents: John W. Boynton (step or adoptive) and Catherine Etchegoin
Married Clinton V. Melarkey, 27 November 1919 (as Miss Alice Boynton)

Middle name, full dates, places from Nevada death index. Marriage, maiden name from published marriage announcement (pre-ceremony) [Reno Evening Gazette, Thursday, 27 November 1919].

Alice is censused in 1900 in Reno Ward 4, Washoe county, Nevada, as Alice Etchegoin, aged 3. She is censused as a boarder with the head of household being John W. Boynton, aged 63. Also in the household as boarders [in order] are Catherine Etchegoin (25), [Alice], Charles Longstreet (41), Benjamin Etchegoin (31), Edward Etchegoin (20), Ah Tony (35), and James Happer (75). John Boynton is divorced, Ah Tony married, and everyone else single.

John Boynton married Catherine Etchegoin 13 May 1901 in Fresno county, California. By 1910 John W. Boynton, aged 72, has a new wife, Myrthel B., aged 24. Children in the household are Alice (12), John (6), and Cynthia (3). Catherine died in March 1907, a few month's after Cynthia's birth. [The death date on Catherine's gravestone is contradicted by two published obituaries.]

Based solely on Catherine's marital status in the 1900 census, it appears she was not previously married; however, this single piece of "evidence" is not definitive.
