Mrs. Mertha Lea Gazaway, of Austell, Georgia, passed away June 9, 2007. She was born on June 3, 1917 in Paulding County, Georgia and moved to Cobb County, Georgia in Dec., 1956. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Gordon Baxter and the late Lottie Leona Cole Baxter of Paulding County. She had four brothers and four sisters, whom preceded her in death. She was a dedicated and faithful member of White Oak Springs Second Baptist of Dallas and Corner Baptist Church from July, 1925 until her death.

She loved her church and attended regularly, as long as her health permitted. She was very active in WMU, where she held many offices in Georgia Baptist, Metro formally Concord and Tallapoosa Associations and her church where she belonged. She was also very active in Vacation Bible School, she taught youth and adult Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of Corner Senior Citizens. She really loved the work she did for the Lord's kingdom on earth.

She was preceded in death Jan. 6, 1992 by her husband, Robert Guy Gazaway, after 59 years of marriage, her daughter, Jacklin Gennell, March 10, 1993 and son, John Weyman, Nov. 1, 1938.

She is survived by her one daughter, Robbie Lee Gazaway Bard; two grandsons, Michael Cooke and Mark Arnold; three granddaughters, Tesa Crysler, Rose Pittman and Donna Finegan; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends, who she loved and cherished very much.

Funeral Services were held June 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Bellamy Funeral Home. Interment followed in White Oak Springs Church Cemetery.

Bellamy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
