A lifetime area resident, he was born in Newell, February 26, 1935, a son of the late Stanley and Dora Barrett Swift. For 25 years, he worked at the former Crucible Steel Company with computers and later in the payroll department. A member of the Wells High School Class of 1953, he was a member of the West Virginia State Championship basketball team.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served from 1954 to 1957. A faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool, he was a member of the choir and was a Sunday school teacher. At one time, he had attended the Newell and Chester Churches of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Day Swift, whom he married November 14, 1981. He also leaves a sister, Orwina June Swift Parrish of New Braunfels, Texas, as well as a niece, Sandra Tubb, and several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may visit Thursday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Dr. Robert Sylvies and Rev. Henry Joiner, brother-in-law, will conduct a funeral service Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Locust Hill Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
