Harry Wood Jr., age 83, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Mr. Wood was the son of Bertha C. Rogers Wood Warden, of Oak Hill, and the late Harry Wood, Sr.
He was a retired truck driver, working for Dr. Pepper, Meadow Gold, Valley Bell, Glenwood and Charleston Acoustics. Mr. Wood was of the Christian faith, and enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, the Cincinnati Reds, and all sports related to the West Virginia University Mountaineers. Mr. Wood never met a stranger and was a great story teller.
In addition to his father, Harry Wood Sr., he was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Wood.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his 101-year old mother, Bertha Wood Warden of Oak Hill; two daughters, Carolyn Wood Grimes and husband Jack, of Florida, and Melanie Wood Trotta and husband Vince, of WV; brothers, Roger Warden of Grandview, Arthur Warden and wife Sharon, of Daniels, and Tim Warden and wife Mary, of Asbury; sisters, Yvonne Bryant of Knoxville, TN, Drema Clemens of Salisbury, NC, Karen Long and husband Dwight, of Greenville, SC, and Debbie Meadows and husband Dale, of Shady Spring; a granddaughter, Denise Ward and husband Larry Ward Jr. of Memphis, TN; great grandchildren, Katherine and Gavin Ward. Many nieces, nephews and his special companion, Virginia Parrish of Beckley, also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Ricky Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Epling Cemetery at Flat Top, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tim Warden, Tim Epling, Gary Epling, Kendrick Epling, Dale Meadows, Kevin Reedy, Sid Layne, Randy Redden and Robert Jordan.
