KATY - Gregory "Greg" Jon Wood, 60, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 30, 2019, receiving ultimate healing from his fight with ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou-Gehrig's Disease).

Greg was born on April 3, 1959 to Jack and Betty Wood, at Citizens Hospital in Victoria, Texas, the fourth of five boys. Spending the majority of his childhood living in the South Texas countryside in Inez, Texas, Greg quickly formed a passion for animals and livestock, raising swine and steer for show from an early age. Throughout this time, Greg attended elementary school in Wood-Hi, Howell Junior High, and Victoria Stroman High School, Class of 1977. Greg went on to attend Texas A&M University, following his lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. He studied Animal Science as part of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1981 and later graduated in 1984 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He began his career at DeWitt Veterinary Clinic in Cuero, Texas, continued to practice in Victoria, and retired from VCA-Kelliwood Animal Hospital in Katy, Texas, after 19 years as Hospital Director.

When Greg was not seeing patients, he was often seen working in the yard, going for walks, experiencing new places to eat, and most importantly, attending every Aggie sporting event he could. Although he put all his energy into loving and serving his family, friends, and clients, he still found more to give, serving as a KISD Keys Mentor and Stephen's Minister for many years.

Greg was a steadfast follower of Christ and was an active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy and past member of Grace Presbyterian and First English Lutheran in Victoria. Although his last years were ravaged by a devastating disease, he never lost his sense of humor, his deep faith, or passion for his convictions. Greg never strayed away from his others-focused mentality, making sure people knew they were genuinely cared for at all times.

There will be a visitation for family and friends in Katy on Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Memorial Lutheran Church, 5810 3rd Street, Katy, TX. Visitation will be at First English Lutheran Church, 516 N. Main Street, Victoria, TX on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with the Funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jim Pearson officiating. Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday at 2:30 pm at the Elim Lutheran Church Cemetery near Kenedy, TX.
