Verta Elizabeth Sloan Perdue, 85, of Redwood went to be with the Lord on Sunday June 17, 2007.

Mrs. Perdue was one of 11 children in a very close nit family. A member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. She loved all children, gardening and was an avid quilter.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter Lee Perdue; a son, Milton Lee Perdue; her parents, Thomas Millard and Berta Saul Sloan; brothers, Birchel Lee Sloan, Thomas Burford Sloan, ( twin) Robert Virgil Sloan, William Alfred Sloan and Sergeant Thomas Millard Sloan, Jr.

Surviving to cherish her memory are sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Clifford and wife Carolyn of Ferrum and Ronald Dean Perdue and wife Debra of Redwood; grandchildren, Angela Michelle Perdue, Melissa Dawn Hodges and husband Greg and Chad Toland Perdue and friend Susanne; great-grandchildren, Camron Lee Swartz and twins, Allison Faith and Amanda Grace Hodges; stepgreatgrandchildren, Amanda Doss, Michael Doss, Wayne Ellis, Shelia Ellis, Jazlyn Ellis, Lexie Ellis, Brooklyn Ellis and Miranda Doss; sisters, Delphia (Dale) Carroll, Jessie Brown both of Rocky Mount and Nelma Meade of Maryland; brothers, Samuel (Coy) Sloan of Charlottesville and Berkley Sloan and wife Ruby of Southerland and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Lynch Funeral Home on Tuesday June 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eddie Hawks and the Rev. Rick Poland officiating. Interment to follow at Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 3 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday June 18, 2007 where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations in Verta's name be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 180 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount, Va. or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, Va.
