Randy, a Deputy Sheriff in Forsyth County who later became a fireman, lived with Julia Lynn Womack Turner, a former 911 dispatcher, for four years. In December 1994 Julia Lynn Turner accompanies Randy Thompson to his parents' home in Warner Robins, Georgia while still married to Maurice Glenn Turner; the Thompsons later maintain their son didn't know his girlfriend was married to someone else. Randy and Julia Lynn had two children; a daughter Jan. 30, 1996, and a son June 18, 1998. Randy moved out in the fall of 1999, but continued to see Julia Lynn romantically, but then in late 2000, he developed a staph infection after outpatient sinus surgery. In the early hours of January 20, 2001, after reportedly having had dinner with Julia Lynn Turner at a restaurant, Randy checked into the emergency room complaining of vomiting and headaches. Like Glenn Turner, Lynn's first husband, he was given fluids and anti-vomiting medication and then released. Randy Thompson died alone in his apartment on January 22, 2001, less than 24 hours after being released from the emergency room. An autopsy revealed severely clogged arteries, and his death was attributed to heart disease. The autopsy, as well as his prior staph infection, led his family to believe Randy died of natural causes. But months later, Randy's mother, Nita Thompson, received a letter from Glenn's mother, Kathy Turner. According to news reports, the two women began to discuss the similarities in their son's mysterious symptoms, and the one woman whom both men had loved. Nita and Kathy reportedly led the charge to have the suspicious deaths reexamined. In June, 2001, Dr. Mark Koponen, deputy chief medical examiner at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, tested Randy's tissues for toxins and discovered the telltale calcium oxalate crystals that would later also be found in Glenn's tissues. Fall 2001 Glenn Turner's cause of death is changed to antifreeze poisoning and deemed a homicide following another autopsy performed on his exhumed remains. Lynn Thompson was convicted of both murders on March 24, 2007 in the antifreeze death of both men and is serviing two consecutive life sentences.

NOTE: Julia Lynn Womack Turner died in a Georgia prison on August 30, 2010 after only serving three years of her 2 consecutive life term sentences.
