Rev. Samuel Swayze, commonly known as Reverend Sam, was a pastor of a church in New Jersey. He brought Protestantism to Mississippi by forming a Congregational church when he arrived in Mississippi in 1773.

He died in 1784 in Mississippi. He was buried below Fort Rosalie on a bluff that has since washed away. He has a memorial marker in Kingston Cemetery in Adams County, Mississippi.
