Ruby Lee Sutton, 90, formerly of Lyons, Kansas, passed away May 26, 2019 at Comfort Care Homes, Newton, Kansas. She was born October 9, 1928 in Blocker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jess and Dollie Watts Clagg. On October 9, 1949, Ruby was united in marriage to Cecil Sutton in McAlester, Oklahoma. Ruby was an active member of the First Christian Church, Lyons, Kansas, where she was a deacon. She served over 20 years as chairwoman of the Wedding and Reception Committee, and also served on the Stewardship and Worship Committee. She sang for many years in the church choir, was past-president of the Faith Group, and was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF). Ruby loved learning. After her children had grown and left home, she attended Hutchinson Community Jr. College, as well as Outreach courses through Barton County Jr. College. She was especially proud that all of her grandchildren had graduated from college. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom she regaled with songs and nursery rhymes, “surprise tray” snacks, ice water, frozen grapes, and cubes of watermelon (with all the seeds removed). Her family was her greatest joy, and the subjects of her daily prayers (as well as the objects of her persistent efforts to “feed those babies!”). Ruby will be remembered for being a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and as a surprisingly good dancer at her grandchildren’s weddings! Her wonderful spirit, her gentle kindnesses, her love of all children, and her love of family and friends, reflected the glorious face of her Savior Jesus Christ, with whom she is now joyfully spending eternity. She is survived by her husband, Cecil; and three children, Jim Sutton (Janet), Linda Frazier (Mark), and Debbie Harmon (Bill); her eight grandchildren, Jeni Frazier (Doug), Sara Sutton (Mischa Porter), Justin Sutton (Ashley), Nicole Gust (Jeff), Rachel Barron (Mike), Emily Stewart (James), Michelle Gunnell (TJ), and Lindsay Feltner (Ben); and 21 great-grandchildren, Brett, Tye, Holt, Ruby, James, Adam, Aaron, Claire, Benjamin, Andrew, Nathan, Matthew, Caleb, Jacob, Kellilynne, Gabriel, Wyatt, baby girl Stewart, Kylie, Olivia, and Ella. She is preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; and one sister. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at First Christian Church, Lyons, with Pastor Thom Scott officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church, Lyons or Rivercross Hospice, Wichita in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
