^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
James Huff of Montgomery (now Floyd) County, VA, is estimated to have been born about 1794. No record of his birth has been located but Floyd County (which, at the time of birth, was still Montgomery County) was specified as his place of birth in the death certificate of his daughter, Nancy (Huff) Smith (25 May 1825 - 1 Apr 1913). James died at an unknown date and location after 1750. He may well have died where he had lived during his life, Floyd County, Virginia. But it is also possible that he died elsewhere. It is not known, but possible that he--like many close family members--was buried in what in Find A Grave is being called the Sowder-King Cemetery, Floyd County, but also likely previously known as Huff or Huff's Cemetery.

On 8 May 1815 in what was then Montgomery County (now Floyd County), James Huff married Stacy Littrell (there are variant spellings, such as Litterall, for this surname), apparently a daughter of Thomas Littrell (Litterall), whose property was in near proximity to the property of James' parents.

The couple appear to have had four daughters, not completely identified at present:

Sarah "Sally" Huff, born about 1816, married Claiborne L. Manning on 4 Oct 1836 in Floyd County.

Mary Lucy "Polly" Huff, born about 1820.

Nancy Huff, born 25 May 1826 Copper Hill, Montgomery (now Floyd) County, Virginia, died 1 Apr 1913 Locust Grove, Floyd County, VA. The death certificate indicated she was buried at Copper Hill, Floyd County, Virginia. She was a widow when she married William P. or F. Smith on 4 Jan 1870 in Floyd County. Her late spouse may also have been a Smith.

Catharine (Huff) Webb, born about 1826 (or possibly earlier), died 1857. Thought to be the Catharine Huff who married Phillip Anglin Webb (Memorial ID 125738998); he married again, to Louisa May (later Sink?), after Catharine's death.
