Johnny was born May 4, 1943 in Buncombe County to the late Roy McKinley and Veta Chandler Roberts; he was a resident of Buncombe County all of his life. He was the former owner of J&G Supply and owned Johnny Roberts Trucking. Johnny was a member of the Jupiter Fire Department for 38 years and served as their Fire Chief for 19 years over two terms. He was a member of Vance Lodge #293 A.F. & A.M. Johnny was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hanging out at Lake Keowee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glena Sprinkle Roberts who died in 2008.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy Ingle Roberts; daughter, Shonda and husband Keith; son, Shannon and wife Jennifer; brother, Jerry Roberts and wife Diann; step-sons, Anthony and Travis; grandchildren, Todd, Tyler and Tate, Kolby and Keaton; three special young men in Johnny’s life, Jackson, Alex and Brantley.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019 in Locust Grove Baptist Church. Reverends Ben Whitmire, Scott Reece and Mike Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with masonic graveside rites by the Vance Lodge. The lodge will open at 10:00 a.m.
