Daniel Kranendonk passed away at home May 18, 2019 at the age of 95. Dan was born July 24, 1923 in Salt Lake City to Gerrit and Catharina Johanna Adriana de Hann Kranendonk. Graduated from West High School in 1941. Married Verna Mozelle Morgan August 20, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Verna passed away December 6, 1977. Dan married Melva Ashdown October 6, 1978 in the Salt Lake Temple. Melva passed away February 13, 2010. Dan served in the US Army from 1944 – 1946, serving in the Pacific Theater with the 25th Infantry Division during World War II. He received the Army of Occupational Medal (Japan) Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. Dan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in may positions throughout his life but his favorite calling was “Door Greeter”. Dan was an ordinance Worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years. Dan and Melva served a mission in 1987 – 1988 in the New York Rochester Mission. Dan worked as a Heavy-Duty mechanic for 22 years, before becoming a Heavy-Duty Instructor at the Utah Technical College (now the Salt Lake Community College) for 18 years. Dan loved to work in his workshop. Dad created and repaired all kinds of stuff. Some of his favorite projects was designing and building log splitters, trailers and 3 & 4 wheeled bikes. He had lots of people come into his shop for help with a project or just to visit as he worked on a project. Some of those friends became almost family. The final project he was working on is a working scale model of a P&H Shovel.
