He was born October 30, 1925, in Mingus and was raised in Ranger. He served in the Army in WWII in Germany. Employed by Consolidated Vultee in 1949 as a maintenance welder, he was retired from General Dynamics in 1980 as assistant foreman after 31 years of service. Jack was a private pilot and an avid fisherman, hunter and motorcyclist.
Survivors at the time of his death include his wife of 40 years, Julia Elwood of Fort Worth; his brother, Thomas Elwood of Weatherford; his sister-in-law, Martha Van of Fort Worth; and two nephews.
Jack had a very wry sense of humor and was an avid CB radio fan. He had a base station and CB radios in his cars, boat and motorcycle. Jack became known as ‘Jick' to his family because ‘Jick' was the nearest his older brother Thomas could come to pronouncing ‘Jack' when he was a small boy.
His parents were Howard F. and Eula Dot (Young) Elwood. The father, born in Bluffton, Indiana, was a welder and mechanic and the mother, born in Graham, was a devoted mother and housewife. Jack and his parents are buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
