BEZALEEL 1st child of Esau and Huldah (Palmer) Loud

Bezaleel Loud was born at Weymouth, MA where he was reared and educated. He became a famous singer and taught Singing School in Maine. He lived in Maine about 6 years from 1802 near 1808. There he made custom shoes as well as teaching singing. He filed intentions at Weymouth to be married to Abiah Harris on May 12, 1808 but they were married at Bridgewater, MA. She was born at Abington, MA daughter of Abial and Susannah (Snell) Harris. They lived in Weymouth about 8 years and in 1818 they removed to Abington and built the house opposite the West Abington Cemetery. He was also called and recorded as Barzilai Loud. It was said in a letter found that many people would come a long way to church just to hear Mr. Loud sing. He and his wife died at Abington and are buried in the West Abington Cemetery. His son Thomas R. Loud died in CA. while prospecting near San Francisco at the age of 22.

In the Old West Abington Cemetery (now known as Hillside Cemetery) there are stone markers of Bezaleel, Abiah, Thomas R. (their son), and Susannah (Loud) Cobb, their daughter. The stones are legible but do need attention. This burial plot is less than two hundred feet from where Bezaleel built his house across the road.

The death of Thomas R. Loud is recorded as two different dates: Jun. 5, 1851 and Jun. 1, 1851. The tombstone has Jun. 1, 1851 and other records (such as Family Bible) have Jun. 5, 1851.

The name Bezaleel means in the shadow of God.
