Carolyn Needles Homer of Kennebunk Beach, ME, formerly of Wellesley Hills, MA, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2016 at the age of 88. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester E. Homer, Jr. for 62 years, and devoted mother of Chester E. Homer, III and his wife, Shirley, Sally Vallimarescu and her husband, Dan, and Annie Hurd. Her family meant everything to her. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her eight grandchildren, Geoff Homer, Kristin Homer Small, Sarah, Peter and Ben Vallimarescu, Eliza Drake, and Ryan and Oliver Hurd. She adored her great grandchildren Miles and Theo Drake. She was the daughter of Ethel S. and Enoch R. Needles of New Vernon, NJ. Her father was a founding partner (the "N") of the engineering consulting firm, HNTB, and opened the firm's New York City office in 1922. She grew up in Summit, NJ with her five siblings and attended Kent Place School followed by Pine Manor College.

Carolyn was a kind, thoughtful and caring woman who defined grace and humility. She was a loyal friend, adored and respected by all who knew her. She devoted countless hours to service through Meals on Wheels of Kennebunk and Wellesley Junior Service League and was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved to play golf with her friends and family at Webhannet Golf Club and Wellesley Country Club. She was passionate about gardening and was an accomplished needlepointer. One of her pieces hangs today in the MA State House as part of a larger tapestry. Her creative talent was also evident in the gorgeous quilts, sweaters, blankets and Christmas stockings she designed, knitted and stitched for her children and grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Carolyn on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 am in the South Congregational Church, 2 North Street Kennebunkport, Maine.
