Irma "Lena" M. Martin, 91, of Pekin passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Pekin Hospital. Born March 25, 1924 to Anthony and Hermina (Kelsch) May, Lena was born and raised in New York City. She and her sister Olga (deceased) were first-born generation Americans, growing up in a home with German as the primary language. Her father was a tailor, having apprenticed in Vienna, Austria. After immigrating to America he became the owner of his own tailor shop in Manhattan. Lena's mother's family owned a boarding house after immigrating to America and her mother always worked outside of the home.

A war bride, Lena married Clarence H. Martin on Dec. 21, 1945. Clarence was serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Iowa. After marrying in NYC, they moved to Pekin. Lena was a homemaker. She and Clarence were together for 24 years.

Surviving Lena is one daughter, Linda (Robert) Mace of Pekin, one son, Kurt (Linda) Martin of Nebraska.

Her firstborn child, Roger (Virgene) Martin, preceded her in death.

There will be a private burial.
